The Economic Status of Women in Indiana: Highlights Indiana reflects both the advances and limited progress achieved by women in the United States. Women in Indiana and the United States as a whole are seeing important changes in their lives and in their access to political, economic, and social rights. They by no means enjoy equality with men, however, and they still lack many of the legal guarantees that would allow them to achieve that equality. Women in Indiana and the nation would benefit from stronger enforcement of equal opportunity laws, adequate and affordable child care, improved access to health care, and other policies that would bolster their economic progress. |

The Status of Women in Your County: A Community Research Tool This tool is a joint project of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and the James A. & Faith Knight Foundation, to build capacity among community groups to assess and track the status of women in their regions. The tool provides instructions for finding information on the status of women in your county. County-level indicators can inform local policy by identifying areas of need and providing a context for local policy agendas. The suggested indicators in this tool match the state-level indicators used in the Status of Women in the States reports, published by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. |

The Status of Women in the States 2004 Overview Women in the United States have achieved significant advances and are seeing important changes in their lives. Their access to political, economic, and social rights has improved greatly over the past 40 years. Nonetheless, they do not enjoy equality with men, and they lack many of the legal guarantees that would enable them to achieve it. Women across the nation would benefit from stronger enforcement of equal opportunity laws, greater political representation, adequate and affordable quality child care, stronger poverty reduction programs, stronger protection for their reproductive rights and health, greater access to health care, and other policies to improve their status. This Research-in- Brief summarizes the findings of the 2004 edition of The Status of Women in the States, a national overview report that presents and analyzes data for all 50 states. |
