Equal Pay Day Briefing
Tuesday, April 17, 2012
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. E.T.
Dirksen Senate Office Building (Room G-50)
Refreshments will be provided.
Last Congress, the Paycheck Fairness Act passed the House and came within two votes of passing in the Senate. Now that Congress seems to be deadlocked on so many issues, are there opportunities to advance equal pay for women? YES.
Join us for a briefing that will cover the full range of pay equity issues. We'll update you on federal regulations and Obama Administration programs that support enforcement efforts. You will hear about state legislation and other local efforts, and receive hot-off-the-presses state-by-state equal pay data. You will learn about the status of efforts to increase the minimum wage, as well as new research on the issue of pay secrecy -- an issue that hindered Lilly Ledbetter's fight for equal pay. Lastly, the Fair Pay Coalition will update you on the status of pay equity legislation in the 112th Congress, and preview upcoming bills.
Speakers:
Lisa Maatz, American Association of University Women (AAUW)
Deborah Vagins, ACLU
Ariane Hegewisch, Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR)
Ruth Martin, Mom's Rising
Sarah Crawford, National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF)
Fatima Goss Graves, National Women's Law Center (NWLC)
Sponsored by the Fair Pay Coalition with generous funding from the American Association of University Women, ACLU, Institute for Women's Policy Research, Mom's Rising, National Organization for Women, National Partnership for Women & Families, and the National Women's Law Center.
