The Institute for Women's Policy Research is an independent, tax-exempt, scientific research organization founding in 1987 to meet the need for policy-relevant research on women's lives and to inform and stimulate debate on issues of critical importance to women. The Institute works with policymakers, scholars, and public interest groups to design, execute, and disseminate research and to build a network of individuals and organizations that conduct and use women-centered policy research. The women's studies program of the George Washington University united faculty and students concerned with feminist scholarship and the role of women in society. The program offers a Master of Arts in women's studies and a Master of Arts in public policy with a concentration in women's studies. The program also collaborates with the public policy program to offer a Ph.D. in public policy with a focus on gender and social policy, and with the human sciences program to offer a Ph.D. in human sciences with a focus on women's studies.
